While the New York Giants are dealing with the absence of their veteran receivers, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz, a familiar face is back with the Big Blue.
Wide receiver Ramses Barden is back.
Barden tested the free agent market, and fortunately for the Giants, he didn’t land on any team. The 27-year-old receiver visited the team on Wednesday and was signed on Thursday, and practiced with the team the same day after passing a physical.
The 6’6″ receiver is a good pick up for a Giants team that lacks some depth at the wideout position. He is familiar with the Giants’ scheme and can team with Nicks on the outside in three-wide sets. Barden also provides valuable insurance for a wide receiver corp that’s short on experience past Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks.
Barden was a third-round pick in 2009 out of Cal Poly. He didn’t produce much his first three years with jsut 15 receptions, but he showed how valuable he is when he finished last season with 14 receptions for 220 yards, including a nine catch, 138-yard breakout game in his first start against the Carolina Panthers.
