On Friday morning, New York Jets running back Mike Goodson was arrested and charged for unlawful possesion of a handgun, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia that may result in prison time for the Jets’ new running back.
The news is unfortunate for Goodson and is just another blow to the Jets’ already damaged reputation. Goodson could have been huge for the Jets who are in desperate need of a playmaker in the running back category. The Jets signed Goodson this offseason to a three-year, $6.9 million deal after not re-signing Shonn Greene.
Goodson previously played three seasons with the Carolina Panthers and one with the Oakland Raiders last season. He wasn’t a premiere back, but when he did get touches, he would show his potential. In his short four-year career, Goodson has averaged 4.5 yards per carry with three touchdowns. Last season, the running back averaged 6.3 yards per carry and had 195 receiving yards and a touchdown.
The running back is still on the Jets roster for now, but with a new general manager, and trying to clean up an already bad reputation, the Jets may have zero-tolerance with this situation and it may lead to cutting the running back.
