In a very Jets move, it has been reported that the New York Jets are closing in on a deal with the 35-year old quarterback David Garrard. “Both sides are feeling good about a possible deal,” sources said—the Jets believe the aging quarterback will be a good fit in their system.

That’s wonderful. At least two sides are feeling good about that move. Jets fans, on the other hand, are feeling the complete opposite.

David Garrard, a New Jersey native, has not played football since 2010 when he was a part of the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was a part of the Miami Dolphins in 2011 before injuring his knee in training camp. Sounds legit.

It was reported that Garrard had a good workout for the Jets on Thursday, and impressed them. Is this part of new GM John Idzik’s master plan? I guess he meant it when he said there was going to be competition at every spot, including the quarterback position. So why not bring in a Pro Bowler to compete with Mark Sanchez? Even though Garrard was a Pro Bowler ages ago.

In Garrard’s career, he has thrown 16,003 yards with 89 touchdowns and 54 interceptions. Mark Sanchez, watch out.
