With MSG and Global Spectrum nearing a deal to keep the Connecticut Whale at the XL Center, Paul Doyle of WhaleTales is speculating that the team may be changing its name back to the Hartford Wolf Pack.
So what will the team be called? The Connecticut Whale brand was created by Howard Baldwin’s Whalers Sports & Entertainment in 2010 and that company no longer runs the business side of the franchise, although it allowed current XL Center operator AEG to use the name and logo this season. The franchise is owned by MSG, but Global will run the team’s day-to-day operation in Hartford and handle the marketing.
Doyle goes on to say that the Rangers have kept the old Wolf Pack uniforms and renewed the domain name hartfordwolfpack.com.
Oh thank God.
I could not stand the team name or the jerseys. Yeah, it was nice for them to pay tribute to the Hartford Whalers, but despite just being a two letter difference the Whalers is a great name and the Whale stinks. Not to mention I loved the name the Wolf Pack. I didn’t quiet understand the origins of it, but it is just a really cool concept and name. This is one change that I can’t wait to happen.
Come on, that logo was great.
