Marcum went 7-4 with a 3.70 ERA for Milwaukee last year. He pitched 124 innings over 21 starts (5.9 innings per) and struckout 109 to 41 walks.
Marcum has historically been injury prone, however, when he is healthy he is one of the most underrated pitchers in the league. His fastball will blow no one away but he has one of the best changeups in baseball and knows how to use all his pitches to carve hitters up.
With the Mets other options being the likes of Carl Pavano and Chris Young I was really hoping for Marcum. Because it is only a one year deal the risk of him getting hurt does not mean much and if he does go down it will likely just be clearing a path for Zach Wheeler in the rotation.
This is a good signing that the Mets stand virtually no chance taking of losing on.
