Pettitte and Sabathia injured on same day

The Yankees were cruising along almost injury-free until disaster struck today at the stadium. First off the worst news of the day for Yankee fans, the news that Andy Pettitte will be out of commission for at least 6 weeks after fracturing his ankle during his start today. Pettitte took a line drive off his ankle, which left him withering in pain on the Yankee Stadium infield grass. That is not good news for the Bombers, who have seen stellar pitching from Pettitte in his comeback to the Bronx.

The second bit of bad news of the day was the news that Yankees ace CC Sabathia was put on the 15-day Disabled List today after strainig his groin Sunday night against the Mets. He will miss at east two starts  but the injury is not expected to be very serious.

The Yanks have called up right-hander Adam Warren to replace Sabathia. Warren was the Yankees fourth-round pick in 2009 and is 5-5 with a 3.86 ERA with the Triple-A Scranton-Wilkes Barre Yankees. Freddy Garcia will also replace Pettitte for Monday’s start after stringing together a few very good relief outings and Warren will start on Friday against the White Sox in continuation of the Yankees AL Central homestand.
