Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE
Syracuse basketball fans can begin to breath again as Fabricio Melo has been reinstated and will be allowed to play with the team against St. John’s this weekend. The news of this arrived via a
press release by the Syracuse University Athletic Department. This can only be good news for the second ranked team in the nation, who, while donning a 22 and 1 record (9-1 in the Big East), has been rattled inside during the three game absence of their sophomore seven footer. On the legal side of things, due to federal student privacy laws, no one outside the school might ever know what really happened. On the other hand, as long as it was a bump in the road and nothing that will come back again who truly cares?
While on the court side of things it can be said: what a way to come back for Melo, as the Orange will play their next game at Madison Square Garden against the Red Storm, with tip off time being at noon on Saturday (televised by ESPN). It seems that coach Boeheim’s team is always ready when playing in that arean and it will be interesting if the returning center can showcase his blocking abilities (3 per game) while playing in the mecca of basketball. Without a doubt with the return of the big man SU is a much better team and is once again ready to be among the elite squads that will fight for the national championship this spring.
