After basically a week gone by in the National Basketball Association both the New York Knicks, which you can also follow at FanSided Buckets over Broadway, and the New Jersey Nets, which have the From Russia with Dunk site on FanSided, can not say they have started off the new season with a “bang”. Sure the Knicks beat the Celtics at home on Christmas Day, but after that they have fallen twice on a west coast trip, while Nets have not looked good in their three games, and are dead last in the league in points scored. On the other hand the Knickerbockers are last in the NBA as far as rebounding, which can not bode well if, as coach D’Antoni wanted, this is to be a defensive power as well.
The Knicks scored 106 in their season opener, but then have only put up 78 and 82, and that is just not going to cut it if they are looking to make a statement this year. The Nets, who have not gone past 90 points in any of the three games, with two of them being in the 70′s, also are not looking like a team that is on the way up. However, for the team from beyond the GW Bridge, once the deal for Dwight Howard fell through no one assumed they would be making much noise. The last two thuds against Atlanta and Orlando have proven just that.
This weekend both squads will have just one game, the Nets going south to take on the Hawks, team they lost to as home 106 to 70, while the Knicks will still be on the west coast, this time playing Sacramento. With a sixty-six game schedule nothing is a must win situation until you get into the 50 games plus, but for either team a win could sure boost morale if they are looking make some sort of splash this year.
A week does not make a season, but sometimes you do see the day by what happens in the morning. If that is the case it’s not going to be the best of years for either clubs, which both have their agendas to fulfill, with the New York club looking to make a deeper run into the playoffs and the one from New Jersey wanting to walk into their new home off a good season.
